1. Sculpting defines objects by sculpting the yarn around the design. This make
the design stand out and appear larger.
2. Prior to sculpting the area must be thoroughly cleaned sheared and defined.
Work from the inside to the outside of the design.
3. Start with a straight line if possible using
the point of the knitting needle slide the point between the two colors
separating the two colors.
4. Slide the blade of the appliqué scissors along the base of the backing
between the two colors.
5. Slant the shears slightly to the side that has the largest amount of color
and cut at 30 degrees. Then slant shears slightly to the other side and cut at
15 degrees.. This will create a V-shape between the two colors.
6. Follow the color to the end or corner. Continue to cut both sides and outline
the motif.
7. Using the half moon shape of the appliqué scissors scrape the wool away from
the motif. After you complete cutting around the entire motif take the 5
inch knife edge scissors and smooth out the angles on both sides. This is where
you can give the finished look that will look stunning.
8. New students often fear cutting their work but when a rug is sculpted
properly it looks gorgeous.

IMPORTANT TIP
|
|
If you cut too much yarn when sculpting:
-
Punch over the area filling in any low areas.
-
Just smooth the motif a little flatter than planned with scissors.
-
Once on the floor all those areas you felt looked bad will disappear from a
distance.
